Swim Nova Scotia Athlete Carding Program
General Funding Policy
Swim Nova Scotia will attempt to fund all eligible athletes. The following funding programs are designed to reward performances of athletes.
Purpose
The purpose is to develop and reward nationally ranked Nova Scotian swimmers.
Criteria
- Member of Swim Nova Scotia.
- Must be a permanent resident of Nova Scotia, if not a permanent resident, they must reside in Nova Scotia for 12 consecutive months.
- Athletes attending out of province schools will not be eligible for funding while they are away.
- Athletes must attend Nationally designated meets for that season and continue in a full-training program.
- Eligibility status for carding will expire upon receiving a National Card.
*Extenuating circumstances will be considered by the Management Team for short course performances, and/or athletes who have moved.
Selection
- All applications shall be submitted to Swim Nova Scotia for approval by the Management Team by the athlete, with the approval of their Head Coach. Application deadlines will be September 1, January 1, and May 1.
- May 1, 2001 application includes performances from May 1, 2000- May 1, 2001.
- Carding status will expire after one year.
- A designated level from the SNC Long Course Performance Charts will be used to determine A and B level carding. The Management Team will designate competitions (Olympic Trials or other trials competitions) for selection of A and B level carding.
- A top eight (8) finish in one of the following three events (50m Backstroke, 50m Breastroke, 50m Butterfly) will provide a swimmer with a B card. However, a top three (3) performance in the above events will provide a swimmer with an A card.
Tiers
A CARD
Swimming/Natation Canada Sr. Nationals top eight (8) times in preliminaries.
B CARD
Swimming/Natation Canada Sr. Nationals top sixteen (16) times in preliminaries.
C CARD
Swimming/Natation Canada Sr. Nationals qualifier.
Funding
Funding for this program will designated by the Athlete Funding Management Team, and
will be reviewed and approved by the Swim Nova Scotia Board of Directors on an annual
basis. Funds will be distributed every two months to the athletes by Swim Nova Scotia;
October 1, December 1, February 1, April 1, June 1, and August 1 to successful
applicants.
TIER A - $250 (per 2 month period)
TIER B - $200 (per 2 month period)
TIER C - $150 (per 2 month period)
* The Swim Nova Scotia Athlete Funding program is subject to review on an annual
basis (May of each year), and is based on available funding.
** Swim Nova Scotia reserves the right to withhold carding status and/or funding if an athlete’s training situation is not acceptable or changes.
