Winter Season Swimming

Winter swimming in our province is divided into three divisions: Future League, Age Group and Pre-Competitive.

Future League swimming is designed to meet the needs of our younger athletes (10 and under) by providing a dynamic and fun competitive experience.

Age Group swimming is designed for swimmers 11 & over that wish to compete in meets. Swimmers that are new to the sport or have just turned 11 years old can still compete at the Future League meets. Swimmers wishing to compete at higher levels must acheive various time standards such as East Coast, Age Group Nationals, Easterns or Senior Nationals. Once swimmers have earned these qualifiying standards they can attend these competitions.

Pre Competitive Swimming is designed for athletes that do not wish to compete in any age group or future league meets. They may choose to swim for fitness, or for social reasons. All of our clubs do offer a pre-competitive component within their club structure. Swimmers can switch to future league or age group at anytime throughout the season if they choose so.

Competitive Program

There are approximately 23 swim meets held in our province at the provincial level, and four national level meets each year. This year, we have approximately 900 athletes in the water. On average there are 30-40 volunteer officials and office workers running one meet.

Future League swimming is designed to meet the needs of our younger athletes (10 and under) by providing a dynamic and fun competitive experience. The goals of the Future League are to promote self-improvement and friendly competition. Future League was designed to ensure that ten and under's learn good swimming skills, set goals and learn to train and work with other athletes both male and female. Families are encouraged to attend and watch their meets; this program is unique to Nova Scotia.

There are eight Future League meets across Nova Scotia (schedule of events is attached). This season, we had approximately 150 future league athletes in the water competing.
