Fifty-one Canadian swimmers, aged 11 to 18 are competing in Santa Clara from August 5th to 7th at the North American Challenge Cup.
14 year old Olivia Feschuk of the Halifax Trojan Aquatic Club placed first in the 400m Individual Medley with a time of 5:01.27 and third in the 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2:47.27 during day one of competition yesterday (August 5th).
Today at the pool Olivia placed third in the 200m Backstroke with a personal best time of 2:23.81 and second in the 200m Butterfly with a time of 2:20.64.
A first taste of international swimming for most of the Canadian squad, the North American Challenge Cup brings together athletes from the Mexican Swimming Federation, Pacific Swimming, Pacific Northwest Swimming, Swimming Canada & Southern California Swimming in a 3-day event held at the legendary Santa Clara International Swim Centre. Swimmers will compete in their respective age group.
“This is a terrific opportunity to expose our young talent to international swimming,” said Pierre Lafontaine, CEO and National Coach for Swimming Canada. “It’s such a valuable learning and motivating experience for athletes and coaches.”
“What’s really great about this team is that we have a variety of swimmers coming from all across the country,” added Lafontaine.
