Halifax Trojan swimmers earned top spots after the first day of competition in Victoria at the 2010 Senior National Championships taking place at the Saanich Commonwealth Pool. Over 500 of Canada’s top swimmers began competing today along with top swimmers from Australia and France.

David Sharpe and Terri-Lynn Benison both earned top spots in the 200m Butterfly; David placed fifth overall in the A final with a time of 2:03.25 and Terri-Lynn placed 15th overall swimming in the consolation final with a time of 2:16.68. Chris Reith who swam in the timed final of the 1500m Freestyle earned a new Nova Scotia Senior Men's Long Course Provincial Record with a time of 16:08.50 with a 14th overall finish.

These National Championships will act as a second qualification meet for the Pan Pacific Championships, held in Irving California next August.

Competition will continue through Saturday with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m., and finals at 6 p.m. local time.
