Sharpe to Compete at the 2009 Universiade Games

The 25th Summer Universiade gets under way in just over a week in Belgrade, Serbia and Canada is sending one of the largest delegations to the biennial World University Games. A total of 307 including 212 athletes and 95 coaches, medical and administrative staff will be representing Canada from various sports including swimming.

18 year old David Sharpe of the Halifax Trojan Aquatic Club will be one of those 212 athletes competing in Belgrade, Serbia July 5-11th, 2009. David has been selected to compete in the 100m Backstroke based on his performances at the 2009 Canadian Spring Nationals where he earned a silver medal. David will compete on the first day of competition on July 5th. He will be departing Halifax on Sunday June 28th.

Swimming Canada is sending a team of 42 athletes (20 female and 22 male), including 2008 Beijing Olympic Swim Team members Brian Johns, Keith Beavers and Richard Hortness.
