Assistant Head Coach

The Sackville Waves Aquatic Team (SWAT), in Sackville, Nova Scotia, is accepting applications for an Assistant Head Coach for the start of the 2012-13 swim season.

SWAT has grown steadily from a midsized team of approximately 60 swimmers to a large team of almost 100 swimmers. We expect that high level pace of growth to continue in the foreseeable future.

SWAT is one of Nova Scotia’s top swim teams. Complementing its dedicated coaching staff are a group of highly engaged parent volunteers that are committed to ensuring that SWAT is best of breed in the swimming community. We support continuing professional development in our coaches and strive to provide those opportunities where they are available.

The candidate will join a dedicated team committed to providing an excellent training program in a fair, fun, friendly and inclusive environment.

This position is part time and will include coaching swimmers of various ages and levels. We are looking for an energetic individual that has a passion for the sport of swimming and enjoys working with youth of all ages and capabilities.

The candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
 Minimum Level 1 coaching certification, Level 2 preferred
 Strong communication skills – with swimmers, parents and other coaches
 Ability to command respect on deck from swimmers
 Maturity and reliability
 Previous coaching experience
 An understanding of the various levels within the Novatech program
 A clear criminal and child abuse background check

Duties will include but will not be limited to:
 Coaching Novatech program swimmers
 Assisting other coaches with Age Group level swimmers
 Recording video of swimmers and providing swimmers with an analysis of the results
 Attending swim meets when required
 Setting goals with swimmers
 Establishing a strong communication link with parents
 Various administrative duties such as ensuring meet entries are timely and based on discussion with the swimmers
