-Serve as a mentor for club swimmers; develop a plan to foster the development of team spirit in training sessions, time trials and swim meets.
-Serve as mentor to members of the coaching staff, displaying active leadership and ensuring club policies and procedures are adhered to.
-Develop a seasonal training plan to be approved by the President (representing the executive) and the Coach Selection Committee. This plan must include:
-Weekly points of emphasis for team training
-Plans to aid the development of optimal technique and the development of tactical, physical and mental strength in team members
-A course of action to ensure that technique and endurance levels will be maximized through training sessions
-Attend all team training sessions, club time trials and swim meets that the club enters
-Prepare practice plans for all team practice sessions
-Work with the assistant coach to ensure communication and implementation of seasonal training plan, weekly goals and daily practice plans
-Work with the club executive to prepare a plan for delegating responsibilities to the assistant coach for training sessions, time trials and swim meets to maximize effectiveness
-Provide regular feedback to the executive during weekly meetings with their representative (President). President will receive feedback and suggestions from the parent body; this feedback will be discussed with coaching staff and adjustments made on aspects of coaching as needed.
-Develop a plan to ensure that technical feedback to the swimmers from coaching staff is continuous in training sessions and that it contains a balance of specific information with corrective feedback and encouragement
-Ensure time cards for swim meets are prepared in advance; ensure an efficient plan is prepared in advance for time trials. This may include the involvement of the assistant coach.
-Develop a plan to ensure that coaching staff distribute time at swim competitions to include interaction with all team members
-Prepare the weekly newsletter for distribution to the parent body; this should include an educational component for swimmers as appropriate, along with the head coach’s message. Other information to be included will vary each week.
-Complete all administrative tasks as requested by the club’s executive.
-Provide leadership in the active recruitment of new team members, as required and in consultation with club executive
-Bring any coaching concerns to the attention of the club’s executive as soon as that concern develops
-Select the team for the Nova Scotia Summer Swim Championships in compliance with club policy and in conjunction with the executive representative.
-Submit an end of season report to the club, including successes, challenges and recommendations for the future.
-Attend Swim Nova Scotia’s Summer Swim Club’s Annual Meeting, if available
-Demonstrate commitment to coaching and self improvement by participation in professional development opportunities
